How your rate is determined

Your rate is analysed just for you, based on your credit profile and the security provided by the vehicle. Checking your rate is a soft inquiry — it will not affect your credit score.

Harmoney offers two ways to finance a car. A secured car loan uses the vehicle as collateral — registered as security — which typically means a lower interest rate. An unsecured personal loan does not require the vehicle as security, giving you more flexibility but at a higher rate. In both cases, your rate is fixed for the life of the loan, and there are no early repayment fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

To apply for a Harmoney personal loan in Australia, you must be 18 years or older, be an Australian citizen, a Permanent Resident, a New Zealand citizen, have paid employment (which may include self-employment), and your credit file must not have any defaults, judgments or bankruptcies. You need to borrow at least $2,000 and have photo identification such as your valid Australian passport or driver's licence. Meeting these criteria does not guarantee approval — Harmoney conducts an individual credit assessment under responsible lending obligations.
No. Checking your rate with Harmoney is a soft inquiry, which does not appear on your credit report and does not affect your credit score. You can check your rate without any commitment. A hard credit inquiry only occurs if you choose to proceed with a full application after reviewing your personalised rate and loan terms. This two-step process lets you see your options before making any decisions.
Harmoney charges an establishment fee of $275 for loans up to $4,999 and $575 for loans of $5,000 and over. Some applicants with strong credit profiles may be eligible for a $0 establishment fee. There are no monthly fees and no early repayment fees. 4
Harmoney secured vehicle loans are available from 5.66% p.a. to 21.99% p.a. (comparison rate 5.66% p.a. to 22.92% p.a.). The vehicle must be registered as security on the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR), and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is required. Secured rates are typically lower than unsecured because the vehicle serves as collateral. The rate offered to you depends on your individual credit assessment. 1
In Australia, there is no general statutory cooling-off period for consumer credit contracts under the National Consumer Credit Code. Once you sign your loan contract and funds are disbursed, the contract is binding. However, Harmoney charges no early repayment fees on any product, which means you can repay your loan in full at any time with no penalty. If you repay shortly after disbursement, you would only owe the interest accrued for the days the loan was outstanding plus the establishment fee. Harmoney recommends seeking independent financial advice before committing to any loan. If you believe Harmoney did not adequately disclose the terms of your loan or did not meet its responsible lending obligations, you can raise this with Harmoney directly or escalate to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
To apply for a Harmoney personal loan in Australia, you need to be at least 18 years old, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, be currently employed or self-employed, and have a clean credit history (no defaults, court judgments, or current bankruptcies). You will need a valid form of identification (passport or driver licence) and access to your online banking so Harmoney can securely verify your income. There are no paper documents to upload — the entire process is online.
If illness or injury affects your ability to make repayments, contact Harmoney as early as possible. Harmoney has a dedicated hardship team that can discuss options with you, which may include reduced repayments, a temporary pause on repayments, or an extended loan term. Under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009, you have the right to request a hardship variation if you are experiencing financial difficulty. To apply, contact Harmoney at 1300 042 766 or customerservice@harmoney.com.au. If you are not satisfied with the response, you can escalate to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) at 1800 931 678 or afca.org.au.
The Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) is an Australian government register that records security interests in personal property, including vehicles. When you take a secured car loan with Harmoney, the vehicle is registered on the PPSR to record that it is used as collateral for the loan. This registration protects both you and the lender — it prevents the vehicle from being sold with outstanding finance and ensures any buyer can check whether a car has existing security interests. Registration must be completed within 60 days of your loan being funded. There is no fee from Harmoney for the PPSR registration. You can search the PPSR yourself at ppsr.gov.au before buying a used car to check whether it has existing finance owing.
If you are experiencing financial difficulty, contact Harmoney as soon as possible at 1300 042 766 or customerservice@harmoney.com.au. You can apply for hardship assistance even if your loan is already in arrears. Under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (s 72), you have the right to request a hardship variation if you are unable to meet your repayment obligations. Harmoney will generally respond to your request within 21 days. If we need more information from you, we will request it within 21 days and provide a final decision within 21 days of receiving it. If you do not provide the requested information within the timeframe specified, Harmoney will make a decision within 28 days of the original request for information. Options may include reducing repayment amounts, extending the loan term, or temporarily deferring repayments. If you are not satisfied with Harmoney's response, you can lodge a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA, member 43816) at https://www.afca.org.au. AFCA is a free, independent external dispute resolution scheme.
